Article 1: MEMBERSHIP
A person is a member of the KMDA if he/she is in possession of a validly issued membership card in his/her name for a period of one year. The membership price is set by the KMDA management.
Any person who is 18 years of age or older can be registered as a member of the KMDA and can choose between a personal or a family membership. Children between the ages of 3 and 17 can be registered as a member of the KMDA if one of his/her parents concluded a membership agreement with an annual family contribution and he/she lives at the same address and is unmarried. Children under the age of 3 have free access to the parks (Antwerp ZOO, Planckendael ZOO).
1.1. The membership with annual personal contribution
The membership, and therefore the membership card, is strictly personal. It states the name of the member, and also contains a photograph.
It is strictly forbidden to let any other person use this personal card.
1.2. Membership with annual family contribution
The membership is issued to the name of the family members who, in accordance with this article, are covered by the family membership. A family includes parents and unmarried children aged under 18 (on the date when the membership is purchased). Unmarried children aged 18 or more, living at the same address (without children of their own) can only take part in the family membership subject to payment of an additional annual contribution (*) set by the Management.
An unmarried brother, sister, father, mother, grandchild or au-pair of the member, officially living at the same address, can also enjoy the benefits of the family membership subject to payment of an additional annual contribution (*) set by the Management. In this case, an extract of family composition must be presented. Each family member covered by the family membership who is older than 3 years will receive a personal membership card with a photo.
The person who buys a membership for minor children is expected to have parental authority over these children.
It is strictly forbidden to let any other person use this personal card.

Remark
Divorced persons have the option to purchase a family membership which will also cover their unmarried children, aged under 18, who do NOT live at their address, but at the address of their ex-partner (see 1.3.c below). This is possible on presentation of the child’s birth certificate or the marriage booklet. Every child aged 3 or more will receive a personal access card with photo.
Please note that the former spouse CANNOT be included in the family membership. In the event of divorce, the family membership is granted to one of the two partners. It is up to the divorced couple to decide who will be granted the membership. Consequently, KMDA shall not accept any responsibility for the granting of the membership to either of the partners. Personal disputes are not the responsibility of the KMDA.
In the event of divorce, the membership will only be adapted to the new family situation at the end of the period of validity. This shall be done at the request of one of the partners. The other partner will be able to purchase his or her own individual or family membership.
1.3.a Membership for pensioners
To be eligible for the reduced rate for pensioners, the following conditions must be met:
- for a family membership, one of the partners (married or officially cohabiting couple) must have reached the age of 60 on the day of purchase;
- for a personal membership, the individual must have reached the age of 60 on the day of purchase.
1.3.b Membership for the disabled
To be eligible for the reduced rate for disabled members, the following conditions must be met:
- for a family membership, one of the partners (married or officially cohabiting couple) or one of the children living at the same address must be the holder of an official disabled persons card (at least 66%, obtainable from the health insurance fund) on the day of purchase;
- For a personal membership, the individual must be the holder of an official disabled persons card on the day of purchase (at least 66%, available from the health insurance fund).
- for a personal membership, an official document providing evidence of the disability must be in the possession of the individual on the day of purchase.
The following documents shall be accepted for the purpose of proving the disability.If the disability document is no longer valid when applying for renewal of the membership, a new valid document must be presented.
Adults:
- National sickness fund certificate with mention of min. 66% disability. This document must be valid at the time of application, and must be/have been valid for a total of at least 3 years.
- Certificate of FPS Social Affairs or ‘certificate of recognition of disability’, stating 4 points in the first pillar. Certificate valid for at least 3 years and valid at the time of the membership application for a disabled person.
- European Disability card
Children:
- FPS Social Affairs certificate, stating at least 4 points in the first pillar or at least 8 points in the 3 pillars together.

1.3.c Membership for single-parent families
In order to be eligible for the reduced tariff for single-parent families, the following conditions have to be met: the head of the family must be single, divorced, widow/widower or one of the partners renounces to the membership.
The person who buys a membership for minor children is expected to have parental authority over these children.
1.3.d Membership for foster families or adoption families
In order to qualify for the foster family membership, the following conditions apply:
- A. Only children who were officially allocated by the court or the youth centre to a family, for a period of at least 50 days per year, can also enjoy the benefits of the membership. It is sufficient for the foster or adoption family to present an official certificate issued to the name of the child assigned to them;
- every time a new child is adopted or accepted into a foster family, new proof must be presented;
- homes or other institutions are not eligible for a foster family subscription (=adoption), only families.
The person who buys a membership for minor children is expected to exercise parental authority or have (foster) custody over these children.
1.3.e Membership for students
In order to be eligible for a student membership (*) the following conditions apply: students are anyone aged between 18 and 25 holder of a valid student card. The content of the student membership is identical to the individual membership, except for the extra tickets the renewer receives under certain conditions. The student membership cannot be cumulated with other actions, promotions or benefits.
(*) on 1/1/2018 the price of a student membership is €50.
1.4. Start of the membership
The membership is always concluded for one year, not necessarily coinciding with the calendar year. The management can set the membership start date. All memberships purchased after 01/04/2013 are valid for 365 days as of the day of purchase.
1.5. Member-shareholder
A person is considered to be a member-shareholder when he/she holds a paying membership and at least one share of the NV KMDA Onroerend Patrimonium. The share must be registered or deposited at the KMDA. The KMDA management will apply statement of shareholdership onto the membership card. A member shareholder is allowed to take two persons to Antwerp ZOO or Planckendael ZOO free of charge during normal opening hours. And this with a maximum of 10 persons per calendar year.
The shareholder must always accompany the invitees. Neither the spouse, nor the members of the family, can act in the place of the member-shareholder.
1.6. Theft or loss of the membership card
When the membership card is lost, a duplicate can be requested against payment of a compensation set by the Management (**).
In case of theft a duplicate can be obtained for free, upon presentation of the official police report.
(**) on 1/1/2018 this compensation amounted to 5€.
1.7. Abuse
In case of abuse of the membership card (e.g. letting someone else use it) it will irrevocably be withdrawn without entitlement to a pro rata reimbursement of the remaining period.
The management is always entitled to exclude a member from membership if he/she performed acts contrary to the interests of the association. No justification needs to be provided for this decision.
1.8. Death
When a member passes away, the membership will be terminated. A pro rata refund of the contribution can be requested for the period remaining after the person’s death.
The membership can be transferred to and continued by an heir of the deceased, provided the membership contribution is adjusted in accordance with the current membership conditions.
1.9. Use of the membership card
Every member is required at every visit to show his/her membership card to the access control staff in order to gain access to the park. The first time a member forgets his/her membership card, a free entrance ticket will be provided by the KMDA. If a member forgets the membership card for a second time in a period of 365 days, the member will have to buy an entrance ticket at the price set by the Management (***).
(***) on 1/1/2018 the price for a forgotton membership card was 5€.
1.10 Photo on the membership card
For the membership card to be valid it needs to have a photograph of the member on it. This photo is a copy of the photo on the identity card. The purpose of this photo is to be able to identify the member. This photo will be kept by the KMDA but will not be distributed among external parties. The photo will be stored by the KMDA as long as the membership is active, with a maximum of 5 years. After this storage period, the KMDA will proceed to erase the photo.
1.11. Business discount
The KMDA concludes an agreement with some employers by means of which a discount is granted to the employees of these employers when they buy a membership. The employer is in this case responsible for the correct transmission of the employee’s personal information.
Personal information of the employee will be made available to the employer in order to confirm the purchase of the membership.
If agreed with the employer, a valid personnel card will in certain cases be accepted as proof of entitlement to the business discount. The employee must mail a copy of this personnel card to abonnement@kmda.org with mention of the member’s name.
In order to use the discount offered by a particular employer, the employee must be a part of the membership. In case of a family membership, the employee must be the head of the family (or a parent).
If abuse of the discount is identified, the falsely obtained discount must be paid in an additional charge. In no circumstances will the membership be cancelled on request of the customer or will the paid amount be reimbursed.
The KMDA will never make a refund for the value of this discount on an existing membership. A business discount must be requested before purchasing the membership.
Article 2: BENEFITS
1. Persons with a valid membership card have daily free access to the parks (Antwerp ZOO, Planckendael ZOO) during the term of their membership and this every day when the parks are open (currently 365 days a year), except in case of force majeure, during the hours determined by the Management (announced at the entrance gate and also available on www.ZOOantwerpen.be and www.ZOOplanckendael.be). They also have free acces to Serpentarium ZOO in Blankenberge during the usual opening hours (available at www.ZOOserpentarium.be). Access to nocturnal events or events outside normal opening hours is not included.
2. Persons with a valid membership card can also take part in the events organised for them in the different rooms (concerts, lectures, films, etc.). For some of these initiatives, an additional contribution has to be paid, which is determined by the Management. More detailed information is always provided through the ZOO magazine, which is sent to all members free of charge.
3. The membership card may also entitle the holder to additional benefits, the list of which can be consulted at www.ZOOantwerpen.be and www.ZOOplanckendael.be. KMDA is not responsible for any changes to the content or duration of benefits with external partners.
4. Members who are grandparents can take their grandchildren aged 3 to 17 by purchasing a special “grandchildren's card” which can be used for 10 admissions. The price of this card is determined by the Management (****). This grandchildren’s card is only valid for Antwerp ZOO, Planckendael ZOO and Serpentarium ZOO and if the child is accompanied by one of the grandparents. This card is not valid for godchildren, nieces and nephews...only for grandchildren. (Grand)children younger than 3 can enter the parks free of charge.
5. Benefits in the shops and in the restaurants of Antwerp ZOO, Planckendael ZOO or Serpentarium ZOO can only be granted upon presentation of a valid membership card.

Article 3: Data protection laws
KMDA will comply with all applicable data protection laws, whether national, European or international, for all personal data received.
Personal data is taken to mean all information about an identified or identifiable natural person. An identifiable natural person is one who can be identified, directly or indirectly, in particular by means of an identifier (name, identification number, location data, an online identifier or one or more elements specific to the physical, physiological, genetic, psychological, economic, cultural or social identity of that natural person).
For the purposes of data protection law, consent will be requested from the holder of parental responsibility for the lawful processing of personal data. This only applies to children under 16 years of age. If the child is over 16 years of age, his/her consent to lawful processing shall be sufficient.
Personal data is collected in order to guarantee an optimal use of the membership card. The data will be kept up to 5 years after the period of validity of the membership. After this period, KMDA will anonymise these personal data.
If at the time of purchase an account was created by the member, the Personal Data will be kept until the deletion of the account by the member.
Each member has the right at any time to have free access to his/her personal data, as well as to correct, limit, supplement or delete his/her personal data.
Any member may object to the processing of his/her personal data for serious and legitimate reasons if KMDA has no legal or public interest in the processing. The KMDA can always be contacted at the following e-mail address: privacy@kmda.org.
If you want to file a complaint because of a violation of your personal data, you must contact the supervisory authority. Please contact the Data Protection Officer of the KMDA at dpo@kmda.org or the Data Protection Authority at contact@apd-gba.be.
Article 4: Information and marketing mails
KMDA will send several information e-mails to the e-mail address provided during the membership validity period. The purpose of these information e-mails is to inform members of changes in the park, parking facilities, prices, practical information, thank-you messages and so on.
KMDA will inform the membership holder when the period of validity of the membership is about to expire. This is done through various channels of communication (e-mail, letters, social media, etc.). The KMDA will only contact a member up to five times.
Marketing e-mails are subject to the voluntary consent of the membership holder. Marketing e-mails are e-mails with a commercial message that are sent on a regular basis. The consent given may be withdrawn at any time without giving any reason. This is possible by mail at privacy@kmda.org.
Article 5: GENERAL PROVISIONS
1. Membership implies unconditional and full acceptance of the subscription terms and conditions of the association.
2. Membership implies unconditional and full acceptance of the park regulations applicable at our parks. The park regulations are available at the entrance to our parks or at www.ZOOantwerpen.be or www.ZOOplanckendael.be.
3. Members are forbidden, unless they pay the fixed admission fee, to bring persons into the parks or the rooms if they do not have a free admission right on the basis of these regulations.
4. Inappropriate behaviour during the visit authorises the management to temporarily or permanently withdraw the right of access. Persons causing any injury or damage will be fully liable.
5. The organisation of music performances or cultural and recreational events depends on circumstances and available resources. The Management does not make any commitments in this respect.
6. If Antwerp ZOO or Planckendael ZOO or Serpentarium ZOO should be closed for a certain period due to force majeure, the price of the membership cannot under any circumstances be proportionally recovered.
7. For all circumstances not provided for in these regulations, the Management is authorised to tale all adequate measures in the interest of the Association and its members.
